Among these, the venerable 65-year-old Yakiniku restaurant Tansei stands out, especially for aficionados of beef tongue. Located just a four-minute walk from Akihabara station, Tansei’s signature dish is its ultra-thick, 2 cm salt-grilled beef tongue, offering a texture and flavor that’s distinctly superior to the norm. Besides this, the restaurant boasts homemade, additive-free bacon and highly recommended simmered Harami (skirt steak). The robust flavors of these dishes, accompanied by rich kimchi, make for an elevated dining experience.
For lunch on weekdays, the special beef tongue stew is a rare treat not to be missed. Despite the premium experience, dining at Tansei is surprisingly affordable, with a generous serving of their thick-cut beef tongue priced at 2970 JPY, making the average cost per person about 5000 to 6000 JPY. Reservations are a must for weekend dinners, and with the opening of a new branch under Yushima Tenjin, there are now more opportunities to enjoy this sought-after spot.
Tansei’s simple yet elegant decor makes it perfect for any occasion, from casual gatherings to romantic dinners. For a truly exquisite beef tongue experience in Akihabara or Ueno, Tansei is an unparalleled choice.
