📜 Introduction

Toyosu, Ariake, Odaiba — Tokyo Bay's entertainment spots

Toyosu: Fresh eats and a taste of the future

Toyosu is one of Tokyo’s top spots for fresh flavors, known for its modern market facilities. The Toyosu Market has replaced the old site and become Tokyo’s cutting-edge seafood hub, offering a cleaner, more comfortable dining environment.

  • Toyosu Market (Toyosu Market): The go-to place for fresh seafood, sushi and the latest ocean produce. The market has visitor-friendly observation decks so you can get close to the tuna auctions and soak up the lively atmosphere.

  • TeamLab Planets TOKYO DMM: Toyosu’s most popular immersive light-and-sound art space. Visitors remove shoes and walk barefoot through water, interacting with the installations for a playful, sensory experience.

  • Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai: A new complex combining hot springs, dining and shopping. Relax in open-air baths and enjoy fresh food in a recreated Edo-market atmosphere.

Ariake: Big exhibitions and a sports hub

Ariake, developed around the Tokyo Olympics, is a modern district full of large exhibition and sports venues — a prime spot for big events.

  • Ariake Arena: One of the Olympic venues, now frequently hosting concerts and sporting events.

  • Ariake Garden: A large mixed-use complex with shops, restaurants and theaters. Enjoy shopping or the seasonal garden displays.

Odaiba: A playground of entertainment, shopping and seaside views

Odaiba is Tokyo Bay’s most lively entertainment district. With big shopping centers, theme spots and beautiful waterfront scenery, it’s perfect for couples, families and groups of friends.

  • DiverCity Tokyo Plaza: Famous for the giant Unicorn Gundam statue — a top photo spot. At certain times the statue transforms with movement and lights, drawing huge crowds.

  • AQUA CiTY ODAIBA: More than a mall — it offers great views of the Rainbow Bridge and the Statue of Liberty replica, making it ideal for capturing Tokyo by night.

  • Fuji TV: You can visit the Fuji TV building and its unique globe observation room to enjoy sweeping bay views.

Transportation for Toyosu, Ariake & Odaiba

map

These three areas are very convenient to get around. The main lines to use are the Yurikamome Line and the Rinkai Line.

  • Yurikamome Line: This driverless elevated train links Shinbashi, Toyosu and Odaiba. Riding on the elevated track gives lovely views of Tokyo Bay — the ride itself is a fun little sightseeing trip.

  • Rinkai Line: Connects Odaiba, Ariake and Shin-Kiba, and provides direct access to Ikebukuro and Shinjuku areas, making travel very convenient.

Travel tip: Plan a full day: start in Toyosu for a food-focused morning, then take the Yurikamome to Odaiba for shopping and entertainment, and finish at sunset admiring the Rainbow Bridge for a perfect trip finale.

Children’s career experience park

KidZania Tokyo (KidZania Tokyo)

Address: Lalaport Toyosu NORTH PORT 3F, 2-4-9 Toyosu, Koto-ku, Tokyo
Official site: https://www.kidzania.jp/tokyo/
Hours: Session 1 09:00–15:00 / Session 2 16:00–21:00
Tickets: Children (3–15) ¥3,500–¥12,400 / Adults (16+) ¥2,300–¥7,900 (prices vary by weekday and time)

Overview
Located in Toyosu, KidZania Tokyo is a career-themed edutainment park made just for kids — think of a tiny city where children get to try real jobs. The mini-town features firefighting stations, banks, police stations, restaurants, and even airports and shops. Kids dress up, role-play and try over 100 different jobs and services — from piloting a plane in the simulator to playing firefighter, or baking sweet treats. After completing activities, kids earn “KidZos” (the park’s currency), which they can save or spend inside the park — a neat, playful way to learn about work, money and responsibility.

History & cultural notes
KidZania started in Mexico in 1999, founded by Xavier López Ancona, blending education with entertainment. KidZania Tokyo opened in 2006 as the brand’s first location in Japan. Its core values are based on six principles: existence, knowledge, protection, play, sharing and creativity — all aimed at inspiring kids to imagine and build a better world.

The park emphasizes independent learning: parents cannot enter the activity pavilions (only observe through glass), which encourages kids to explore, collaborate, solve problems and take responsibility under staff guidance. KidZania isn’t just a playground; it’s a tiny society where kids practice real-world skills through play.

Hours: ⏰09:00–22:00 (last entry is 1 hour before closing; closed days vary — see official site)

Exhibition highlights

teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM is a digital art museum centered on “Body Immersive” experiences. Located in Toyosu, it blends cutting-edge digital tech with interactive art so visitors can immerse their whole body into the artworks. The venue focuses on themes of “water” and “flower gardens,” featuring four large-scale installations and two garden spaces — nine works in total — designed to create a unique “water art museum” and “flower garden” experience. Visitors enter barefoot to feel water, light and sound up close; the artworks react in real time to visitor movement, making every visit one-of-a-kind. From Jan 22, 2025 the venue expanded 1.5x with three new zones — including interactive works emphasizing movement, education and co-creation, plus over 20 new pieces suitable for all ages.

Types of exhibits

The exhibitions at teamLab are digital and interactive, including:

Water experiences: Works like “Walking with the People and Drawing Water Surface” let visitors wade barefoot and interact with digital fish and patterns that change on contact, creating instant water-surface art.
Light & mirror spaces: Installations such as “The Infinite Crystal Universe” use mirrors and LEDs to create limitless, immersive worlds that visitors can walk through and influence.
Flower garden art: Pieces like “Floating Flower Garden” merge real flowers with mirrored spaces to form immersive flower seas combining scent and motion.
New interactive zones: The 2025 additions include movement-focused experiences and app-based interactive works where visitors can capture and collect virtual creatures or draw and merge their creations into digital space — all emphasizing play, learning and co-creation.
These exhibits combine sight, sound, touch and smell, stressing collaboration and instant change so every visit feels fresh.

Background

teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM was created by the internationally known art collective teamLab and opened in Toyosu in July 2018, evolving from the 2016 pop-up “DMM.Planets Art by teamLab.” teamLab is a cross-disciplinary group of artists, programmers, engineers and scientists exploring new relationships between people and nature. Initially scheduled to end in 2023, immense popularity extended the exhibition through 2027. Between Apr 2023 and Mar 2024 it drew over 2.5 million visitors, earning a Guinness World Record as the art collective with the most-visited museum-like exhibition. The large-scale 2025 expansion made it an even bigger global draw, cementing its status as a signature digital art spot in Tokyo.

What makes this mall special

Toyosu Senkyakubanrai opened on Feb 1, 2024 next to Toyosu Market. Inspired by Edo-era street scenes, this mixed-use complex blends fresh food, shopping and hot-spring experiences to become a new Tokyo landmark. The facility is divided into the “Food Wing — Toyosu Outdoor Edo Market” and the “Bath Wing — Tokyo Toyosu Manyo Club,” offering everything from fresh seafood to local specialties while weaving in Edo cultural elements. A highlight is the free 8th-floor “Senkyakubanrai Footbath Garden,” where you can soak your feet while enjoying sweeping views of Tokyo Bay and the Rainbow Bridge — a perfect chill-out spot after exploring the market.

A bit of history

The idea for Toyosu Senkyakubanrai came after the Tsukiji Market move to Toyosu in 2018. Built by Manyo Club Co., it aims to carry on the lively market atmosphere while promoting fresh ingredients and local products. The design blends Edo street scenes with modern retail, using motifs like mizuhiki to symbolize human connections. The goal is to become a fresh highlight for Tokyo visitors and a platform to support the local economy and cultural transmission.

Inside there’s a spacious 500-seat free rest area with TVs and separate women-only zones, perfect for families or solo travelers needing a long chill-out. Dining ranges from self-service buffets to live kitchens serving Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes — great for refueling after onsen time.

History

Manyo Club is part of the Manyo Club group and was opened as the Toyosu facility to promote traditional Japanese onsen culture across Tokyo. Launched Feb 1, 2024, it aims to be a modern urban hot-spring spot combining relaxation and spectacular city views.

Culture & vibe

More than a bathhouse, Manyo Club carries the spirit of Japanese onsen hospitality. With the concept of bringing traditional “yubune” bathing into a modern city — “healing in the city” — the facility blends old and new comforts. Guests can wear rental yukata, stroll the indoor spaces that mimic classic Edo/Tokyo street scenes, and enjoy attentive service and quality food. It’s an easy, relaxing way to experience Japan’s bathing culture without a long train ride.

About the market

Toyosu Market is Japan’s (and one of the world’s) largest wholesale markets for seafood and produce. Opened in this location in 2018 after moving from Tsukiji, it has become Tokyo’s food hub. The market is divided into zones for fruits & vegetables, seafood wholesale, and management facilities — plus dozens of restaurants and shops. You can sample top-quality sushi and fresh seafood, watch the busy early-morning auctions (the tuna auction is famous), and feel the lively trade atmosphere through glass viewing areas. The rooftop green plaza gives wide views of Tokyo Bay, making it a pleasant spot to relax after exploring.

History

Toyosu Market officially opened on October 11, 2018, taking over the role of the old Tsukiji market after nearly a century of history there. Built on a reclaimed site of about 40.7 hectares, Toyosu uses advanced refrigeration and hygiene systems to keep ingredients fresh and safe. The relocation faced controversy over soil concerns, but after strict testing and remediation the market opened and is now a major economic and cultural landmark for Tokyo.

Cultural notes

Toyosu Market is more than a trading place — it’s a living showcase of Japanese food culture. It continues Tsukiji’s tradition of valuing freshness, seasonality and craftsmanship, especially in seafood. Restaurants and shops inside combine traditional skills with modern needs, letting visitors taste authentic sushi, seafood bowls and other dishes. Interactive exhibits and demonstrations help the public learn where food comes from and how it’s handled — a nice mix of education and mouthwatering treats that draws visitors from around the world.

What makes this place special

Sushi Dai is a famed Tsukiji-era sushi shop that moved to Toyosu in 2018 and still draws long lines. Renowned for incredibly fresh fish and skilled chefs, the restaurant offers a standout “Chef’s Omakase Set” (about ¥4,800) with around 10 seasonal pieces, a roll, tamago, and a final chef-selected sushi — every item prepared with care and paired with specially seasoned rice. They also serve seasonal a la carte dishes like grilled or seared fish. The place is lively and full of market energy.

Atmosphere & service

Sushi Dai features L-shaped counter seating (about 12–18 seats) so guests can watch the chefs’ handiwork up close. The atmosphere is bustling, often with multilingual chatter and smiling staff. They traditionally didn’t take reservations and operated a queue system, though post-pandemic they moved to a ticket/registration approach allowing callbacks to reduce wait hassles. The shop prefers cash, offers an English menu, and can prepare more cooked options for guests who avoid raw fish. They prioritize accessibility and good service for international visitors.

What sets them apart

Sushi Dai sources fish not by brand but through long-standing relationships with market wholesalers — chefs pick the best catches each day so every piece is at its freshest. The daily blackboard lists seasonal recommendations (think autumn knife-cut fish or winter white fish), letting customers enjoy the freshest seasonal flavors. Sushi Dai also received the Bib Gourmand (Tokyo 2015), proof of excellent quality at reasonable value — a Toyosu must-try.

About the Shop

SMALL WORLDS Miniature Museum

Address: Ariake 1-3-33, Koto-ku, Tokyo (Ariake Logistics Center)

Opening hours: 🕖09:00–19:00 (last entry 18:00)

Highlights

SMALL WORLDS is Asia’s biggest miniature museum, located in Ariake, Tokyo, occupying about 7,000 m². Opened in 2020 and revamped in March 2023, it recreates detailed 1:80-scale miniature worlds across eight themed zones — from a Space Center to iconic pop-culture scenes. The museum blends advanced CG projection, Japanese voice acting, and on-site field recordings to make sound and atmosphere feel real. Interactive features include buttons to move mini models, hidden characters to find, personalized 3D mini-figure creation, and hands-on workshops. A typical visit lasts around 2 hours; die-hard fans can easily spend 4–5 hours exploring every tiny detail.

Exhibits

SMALL WORLDS centers on miniature models, mixing realistic and fantasy elements. Main exhibit areas include:

  • Space Center: Recreates 1960s Apollo-era scenes and futuristic spaceport settings — complete with rocket launch smoke and ground-shake effects that wow the crowd.
  •
  • World Village: A fictional blend of Asian and European towns — from dragon-friendly villages to snow-ringed towns — packed with tiny, exquisite details.
  •
  • Kansai International Airport: A mini Osaka KIX model where planes take off and land every 15 minutes, with realistic announcements and airport sounds.
  •
  • Sailor Moon: Recreates 1990s Azabu-Jūban streets and 30th-century Crystal Tokyo. It’s the world’s only officially licensed Sailor Moon miniature scene — a must-see for fans.
  •
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion: Includes the “Third New Tokyo City” and “Hangar” zones, simulating alarms and city/underground scenes when the Angels attack — fans, rejoice.
  •
  • Japanese Nightscape: Shows Japan’s night views through the seasons — cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, and old castles — paired with the museum café’s panorama for full immersion.
  •
  • Creator Gallery: Displays works by top Japanese miniaturists; some pieces are for sale and showcase incredible craftsmanship.

Additionally, the museum offers 3D scanning to make custom mini-figures you can place in designated areas for a year, adding interactive fun. Regular events and workshops (for example, themed exhibitions like the Evangelion zone) mean there’s often something new to see.

Background

SMALL WORLDS opened in 2020, created by the SMALL WORLDS company to blend technology and art into a miniature-themed park. Located in Ariake near Odaiba and Toyosu, it’s easy to reach. The March 2023 upgrade improved display effects and introduced darker gallery tones to focus attention on tiny details. With the concept of “discovering and sharing joy,” the museum mixes Japanese pop culture (like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Sailor Moon) with realistic scenes to attract fans worldwide. Collaborations with Tokyo’s “Sakatsu Gallery” and “Dollhouse Gallery Misceal” bring top miniaturists’ works into the exhibits. SMALL WORLDS is more than a display — it’s an interactive playground where visitors really get lost in tiny worlds.

What to expect

The statue stands in DiverCity Tokyo Plaza’s 2F Festival Square and is the world’s first full‑scale, transformable Gundam representing both Unicorn Mode and Destroy Mode. Designed by a famed designer, its complex mechanical structure performs timed transformations, revealing the glowing red “Psycho-Frame” skeleton. Combined with the animated projections and music on the WALL‑G background, the result is an exciting audio‑visual show. Night shows often include special clips from Mobile Suit Gundam UC and anniversary visuals to deepen the immersion. Next to the statue is THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO, offering official models and Gundam goods—a must-visit for fans. Seasonal events like “GUNDAM Christmas” add even more festival energy, making this spot a perfect mix of anime fandom and sightseeing.

History

The life-size Unicorn Gundam statue officially debuted on September 24, 2017, replacing the original RX-78-2 statue installed in 2009 as a 30th-anniversary memorial for Mobile Suit Gundam. Built as part of the “TOKYO Gundam Project 2017,” this new statue was created by multiple companies and artists and helped promote the global impact of the Gundam franchise—especially the UC series. The original Mobile Suit Gundam UC story (based on the novel by Harutoshi Fukui) is set in Universal Century 0096 and follows Banagher Links and the Unicorn Gundam’s adventures; its deep plot and detailed mechanical designs made it hugely popular worldwide. Over the years the Gundam franchise has grown massively: 2019 celebrated the series’ 40th anniversary, and in 2024 a 45th‑anniversary program added new WALL‑G show visuals that revisit the franchise’s history and boost the site’s tourist appeal.

History

Aqua City opened in April 2000 and is operated by Mitsui’s retail arm (now Mitsui Fudosan Retail Management). The site was redeveloped from former coastal facilities into a modern leisure and shopping hub, helping transform Odaiba into a major tourist area. The complex covers about 42,500 sq.m and has evolved over time (for example, the ramen hall was fully renewed in 2016 and cinemas upgraded), keeping it fresh and attractive. The rooftop shrine adds cultural depth and ties the mall to Tokyo’s traditions — a neat example of modern life meeting local culture on Odaiba.

What makes the shop special

Sandaime Hakata Daruma is all about its signature rich tonkotsu broth, simmered for hours to release that deep pork aroma without being cloying. The broth is balanced with carefully prepared oils and seasonings to bring out classic Hakata flavor. A standout dish is the “Tsukimi Wantanmen” (¥1,150): an eye-catching yolk in the center, silky seared char siu, and tender wontons that melt in your mouth. Noodle firmness ranges from extra-firm “barikata” to soft “yawa,” so you can pick your texture. You can also replace rice with extra noodles for about ¥150, making the bowl perfectly balanced.

The shop is located in the Tokyo Ramen Kokugikan Mai food hall, which gathers many famous Japanese ramen brands — lively, tourist-friendly, and easy to access. The restaurant uses modern equipment for fast service and even offers outdoor terrace seating with views of the Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Bay. The interior has a distinctly Japanese vibe, with walls showcasing celebrity autographs and media features, highlighting its ramen credentials. Side dishes like fried rice and gyoza are also well-reviewed. After the 2023 upgrade, customers praised the improved broth depth and noodle texture — some even call it “the Tokyo ramen spot closest to authentic Hakata flavor.”

Odaiba Statue of Liberty (Statue of Liberty, Odaiba)

Standing on the waterfront of Odaiba Seaside Park, the Odaiba Statue of Liberty is one of Tokyo’s most iconic photo spots. This French government–approved replica of the original Statue of Liberty sits with Tokyo Bay and the Rainbow Bridge as a scenic backdrop — perfect for daytime shots or dramatic evening lights.

Basic info

Address: 1-4-1 Daiba, Minato-ku, Tokyo 135-0091 (inside Odaiba Seaside Park)

Hours: 🕘00:00〜23:59 (open 24 hours — best views on clear days or from dusk into the evening)

About the spot

The Odaiba Statue of Liberty is a bronze replica about 11.5 m tall (17.4 m including the pedestal) and weighs around 9 tons. Modeled after the original by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, she raises a torch in her right hand and holds a tablet engraved “July 4, 1776” in her left; the seven spikes on her crown represent the seven continents and oceans. From the park’s viewing platform or the Skywalk, you get sweeping views of the statue, Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo Tower and the futuristic Odaiba skyline — especially magical at night when lights reflect on the water. Nearby photo spots like the LOVE sculpture are great for couples, families, and friends. Stroll the wooden boardwalks to enjoy the fresh sea breeze and a relaxed seaside vibe.

History

The Odaiba Statue of Liberty first appeared during the 1998 “Japan-France Year” events to celebrate Franco-Japanese friendship and was shown in Odaiba in April 1998 (and again into early 1999). Due to popular demand and strong public support, a permanent bronze replica was produced using traditional foundry techniques similar to the original and officially unveiled at Odaiba Seaside Park on December 22, 2000. Since then, the “Statue of Liberty in Odaiba” has become a symbolic landmark of the area, paired forever with the Rainbow Bridge as an image of modern Tokyo.
