Fukuoka Tower One-Day Itinerary: Ohori Park, Fukuoka Castle and Momochi Seaside
From historic castle ruins to Hakata Bay
This route is ideal for a Fukuoka day trip that combines history, a lakeside walk and seaside views. Start in the morning at Ohori Park and the Fukuoka Castle ruins in Maizuru Park, stop at Kouno Shrine, then head to Momochi Seaside in the afternoon. Finish at Fukuoka Tower for views over Hakata Bay, sunset and the city lights. The core route is about 7 km, or roughly 12,000 steps, depending on stops and meals.
Highlights along the route
- Fukuoka Castle ruins: Walk among stone walls, Tamon turrets and the former keep site; Maizuru Park is also a popular cherry-blossom spot in spring.
- Kouno Shrine: Located north of the castle ruins, it is an easy stop for learning about the Kuroda family and Fukuoka domain.
- Ohori Park: Follow the approximately 2-km lakeside path, with time for the Fukuoka Art Museum, Japanese garden or a boat ride.
- Fukuoka Tower and Momochi Seaside: Move from the historic centre to Hakata Bay, then walk around Momochi Seaside and Marizon after visiting the 234-metre tower.
Want to add Uminonakamichi?
Uminonakamichi is another major Fukuoka coastal area, known for seasonal flowers, marine leisure and family attractions. It is in a different direction from Ohori Park and Fukuoka Tower, so plan at least half a day separately rather than rushing all three areas into one itinerary.

About Kuroda Kanbei
Kuroda Yoshitaka (Kanbei)
(1546–1604)
A samurai of the Azuchi–Momoyama period and the son of Kuroda Shigetaka. He was born on 29 November 1546 in Himeji, Harima Province (present-day Hyogo Prefecture). His childhood name was Mankichi; he was commonly known as Kanbei and Kageyu, and later took the name Josui after shaving his head.
His Life at a Glance
Family background and succession: His father Shigetaka served the Kodera family, a branch of the Akamatsu clan, and governed Himeji Castle. Yoshitaka later restored the Kuroda family name.
Serving Toyotomi Hideyoshi: In the early Tensho period, he established ties with Oda Nobunaga. In 1577, he offered Himeji Castle to Hashiba Hideyoshi as Hideyoshi advanced into Harima. Kanbei then became one of Hideyoshi’s key strategists and took part in campaigns in Chugoku and Shikoku.
Fief in Kyushu and retirement: After the pacification of Kyushu in 1587, he received six districts in Buzen Province and entered Nakatsu Castle. He retired in 1589 at the age of 44, handing the family headship to his son Nagamasa, but continued to serve Hideyoshi as a military strategist during the Bunroku and Keicho campaigns.
Contribution during the Battle of Sekigahara: Based in Kyushu, he defeated Otomo Yoshimune, attacked Mori Katsunobu at Kokura in Buzen, and advanced through Chikugo toward Higo to fight the Shimazu clan.
Later years and death: After the war, Nagamasa received a fief in Chikuzen, and Yoshitaka moved to Fukuoka. He died in Fushimi, Kyoto, on 20 March 1604 and was buried at Sofukuji Temple in Hakata Matsubara, present-day Fukuoka.
Christian faith: Yoshitaka was also a prominent Christian daimyo. After being guided by Takayama Ukon, he was baptized and took the Christian name Simeon.
Many legends surround Kanbei
Numerous anecdotes about Kanbei have been passed down. Although many were written by later generations, they often portray Hideyoshi’s wariness of Kanbei’s abilities.
Why did Hideyoshi fear him? The main reason was Kanbei’s remarkable foresight.
Kanbei’s foresight
The Kuroda family records tell of Lord Kodera Masashige asking Kanbei whether he should side with the Miyoshi, Mori Terumoto or Oda Nobunaga. Kanbei argued that the Miyoshi had strong influence in Kinai but had plotted against Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiaki; Mori Terumoto was young and lacked stable control over his retainers; while Nobunaga had risen from half of Owari, defeated Imagawa Yoshimoto and brought Ashikaga Yoshiaki to Kyoto. Kanbei therefore declared that Nobunaga would be the person who eventually ruled Japan.
Masashige followed his advice and chose Nobunaga. The story shows Kanbei’s early insight. However, the Kuroda family records were compiled later and may have been written with hindsight, so the episode should not be treated as unquestionable historical fact.
More legends about Kanbei
One story concerns Hideyoshi’s rapid return from the Chugoku region. When news of the Honnoji Incident and Nobunaga’s death reached Hideyoshi, Kanbei quietly remarked that his lord’s good fortune was about to arrive. Such stories suggest that Hideyoshi regarded Kanbei as a man whose intelligence demanded caution.
The Tsuneyama Chronicles also records Hideyoshi asking Kanbei who would rule Japan next. Kanbei answered Mori Terumoto, while Hideyoshi pointed to the person in front of him—Kanbei himself.
Other accounts claim that Hideyoshi heard Kanbei would be the man capable of surveying the country after Hideyoshi’s death. These stories magnified Kanbei’s reputation over time, but most were compiled later and should be read critically.
Did Kanbei really aspire to seize Japan?
The best-known story appears in the Records of Famous Generals. Hideyoshi once asked who would govern Japan after him. When the retainers named Tokugawa Ieyasu and Maeda Toshiie, Hideyoshi named Kanbei instead, saying that if Kanbei truly wished to do so, he could seize the country even while Hideyoshi was alive.
According to the story, Kanbei heard this and lamented that it would bring disaster on his family. He then shaved his head and adopted the name Josui. This, too, is a later anecdote rather than conclusive historical evidence.
Getting Around
Getting Around: How to Connect These Attractions
Ohori Park, the Fukuoka Castle ruins and Kouno Shrine are concentrated in the same area and work well as a walking route. Fukuoka Tower and Momochi Seaside are more comfortable in the afternoon or around sunset.
From Fukuoka Airport or Hakata Station to Ohori Park
- From Fukuoka Airport: Take the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line. The ride from Fukuoka Airport Station to Hakata Station takes about 5 minutes; continue to Ohori Koen Station, then walk about 5–10 minutes from Exit 3 or 5 to Ohori Park and Maizuru Park.
- From Hakata Station: Take the Airport Line directly to Ohori Koen Station. Walking is the easiest way to connect the castle ruins, Kouno Shrine and Ohori Park, so allow 2–3 hours rather than rushing through the entrances.
From Ohori Park to Fukuoka Tower and Momochi Seaside
- Take a Nishitetsu bus from the Ohori Park area toward Fukuoka Tower (TNC Broadcasting Hall); the ride takes about 10 minutes. Walking is also possible: the route is about 3 km and takes 20–30 minutes.
- From Tenjin Express Bus Terminal (1A), take Nishitetsu bus 300 or 301 toward Nokonoshima Ferry Terminal. Get off at the Mizuho PayPay Dome bus stop and walk about 8 minutes toward Fukuoka Tower South Exit. Check Nishitetsu’s official information before departure because schedules may change.
Getting to Uminonakamichi
- By train: Take the Airport Line from Fukuoka Airport to Hakata, about 5 minutes. Change to the JR Kagoshima Main Line to Kashii, about 12 minutes, then take the JR Kashii Line to Uminonakamichi, about 18 minutes.
- By bus and ferry: From Tenjin Bus Stop 2A in front of Solaria Stage, take a Nishitetsu bus to Hakata Port in about 11–12 minutes, then take the Fukuoka City Ferry Uminonakamichi Line for about 20 minutes. Ferry services can be affected by weather, so check the day’s timetable.
Planning tip: Ohori Park, the castle ruins and Fukuoka Tower make a good city walking route. Uminonakamichi is better treated as a separate half-day or full-day plan so that transfers do not consume the whole itinerary.
How should I plan a Fukuoka Tower day trip?
Start at Ohori Park, walk through Maizuru Park to the Fukuoka Castle ruins, and visit Kouno Shrine before lunch. Continue by bus to Fukuoka Tower and Momochi Seaside in the afternoon. Ending at the tower gives you the option of sunset and night views. Allow 6–8 hours for the core route.
How do I get from Fukuoka Airport or Hakata Station to Ohori Park?
Take the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line to Ohori Koen Station. Exits 3 and 5 are about a 5–10-minute walk from Ohori Park and Maizuru Park. The castle ruins, Kouno Shrine and the park are close enough to connect on foot.
Is it walkable from Ohori Park to Fukuoka Tower?
Yes, but it is about 3 km and normally takes 20–30 minutes. To save energy, take a Nishitetsu bus from the Ohori Park area toward Fukuoka Tower (TNC Broadcasting Hall), then walk to the tower’s south entrance.
What are Fukuoka Tower’s highlights, hours, ticket price and address?
The 234-metre tower has an observation deck at about 123 metres, with 360-degree views of Fukuoka, the Sefuri Mountains and Hakata Bay. The address is 2-3-26 Momochihama, Sawara-ku, Fukuoka; Fukuoka Tower South Exit is about a 2-minute walk away. Current reference information lists 09:30–22:00 hours, last admission at 21:30 and an observation ticket of about JPY 1,000. Confirm current prices and closing days before visiting.
What can I see around Momochi Seaside besides Fukuoka Tower?
Momochi Seaside Park stretches north of Fukuoka Tower with a sandy beach, Hakata Bay views and a waterfront path. Marizon offers restaurants and places to sit by the water. Bayside Place Hakata is a separate harbour area near Hakata Port, so do not try to combine both areas on a tight schedule.
Can I visit Uminonakamichi on the same day as Ohori Park and Fukuoka Tower?
It is possible only as a quick visit, but it is not recommended for most travellers. Reach Uminonakamichi by changing at Hakata and Kashii, or take a ferry from Hakata Port after travelling from Tenjin. Because the area suits flowers, marine leisure and family activities, allow at least half a day.

historical background
The history of Maizuru Park is inseparable from the "Fukuoka Castle" in its hinterland. Fukuoka Castle was built in 1601 by Kuroda Nagamasa, the first lord of the Fukuoka Domain in the early Edo period. It took seven years. Because the outline of the castle resembles a flying crane, it was nicknamed "Maizuru Castle" and the name of the park came from this. Fukuoka Castle was once the largest castle in Kyushu, with a magnificent castle tower, multiple turrets (turrets) and a vast moat. Unfortunately, after the Meiji Restoration, most of the buildings were demolished due to the abolition of the castle. Today, only the stone walls, part of the gates, oars and the spectacular castle tower base remain, telling tourists about the glory of the past. These precious relics have been designated as national historic sites and quietly guard this land.
cultural connotation
Strolling through the park and caressing the ancient city walls that have endured four hundred years of wind and frost, you can deeply feel the development of Fukuoka as a castle town. The "Korokan Ruins Exhibition Hall" in the park also displays the ruins of the guest house that served as a reception hall for foreign envoys during the Heian period, testifying to Fukuoka's important position as a gateway for international exchanges since ancient times. For local residents, Maizuru Park is a cultural hub that connects the past and present. It is also a core venue for holding various festivals and activities to gather community emotions.
🕖24H
Maizuru Park is a vast park that perfectly integrates historical ruins and natural scenery of the four seasons. The park has a vast hinterland, centered around the ruins of Fukuoka Castle, and is dotted with vast lawns, tranquil ponds, and dense woods. This is not only an excellent place for citizens to take walks, jogs and picnics on weekdays, but it is also the most famous flower viewing spot in Fukuoka city. In spring, thousands of cherry blossom trees bloom at the same time, turning the entire park into a dreamy sea of pink flowers. The famous “Fukuoka Castle Cherry Blossom Festival” is held at this time; in early summer, wisteria, hydrangea and lotus flowers bloom in succession, each showing charming postures and adding colorful colors to the park.

| Attraction Address | Fukuoka Castle Ueno Bridge Gate Ruins |
The Ueno Bridge Gate Ruins is the main entrance on the east side of Fukuoka Castle and one of the most magnificent gates among the remaining ruins of the castle. As you enter this area, you are greeted by massive, thick stone walls that silently narrate centuries of history. This was once a crucial passage connecting the samurai residences within the castle to the merchant streets outside. Walking through, you can almost hear the synchronized footsteps of the samurai from the past. Although the gate no longer exists, its grand stone wall structure remains intact, allowing every visitor to deeply feel the imposing presence of Fukuoka Castle as the largest castle in Kyushu.
Historical Background
The Ueno Bridge Gate served as the eastern main gate of the castle's "San-no-Maru" area, playing a vital defensive role. This gate utilized the most advanced "Masugata Tiger Mouth" defensive structure of the time. This design included two gates: the outer "First Gate" (Korean Gate) and the inner "Second Gate" (Watchtower Gate), with a square courtyard space (the "Masugata") enclosed by stone walls between the two gates. When enemies breached the first gate, they would be trapped in this square space, subjected to attacks from the defending soldiers on the surrounding walls, making it a highly effective defensive fortification. This design showcases the advanced techniques and strategic thinking of early Edo period castle architecture.

Exhibition Information
Introduction
The Korokan Site Exhibition Hall is an important facility built on the nationally designated historical site of "Korokan." This exhibition hall not only protects valuable archaeological remains but also vividly recreates the prosperous scene of ancient Japan as an international exchange hub through models, excavated artifacts, and visual materials. Visitors can stand on the ruins from a thousand years ago and observe the foundations and drainage systems of ancient buildings through glass floors, experiencing the atmosphere of life and the weight of history from that time.
Historical Background and Cultural Significance
"Korokan" was a guesthouse established in Japan during the Heian period (approximately the late 7th century to the 11th century) specifically for receiving foreign envoys and merchants from China (Tang, Song), Silla, and Balhae, serving as the frontline of Japan's diplomacy and overseas trade. At that time, Japan had Korokan facilities in Kyoto (Heian-kyo), Osaka (Namba), and Fukuoka (Chikuzen), with Fukuoka's "Chikuzen Korokan" being the only one with a confirmed specific location that underwent large-scale archaeological excavation, making its historical value irreplaceable.
This place was not only a lodging for diplomatic envoys but also an important window for the introduction of cultural, religious, and technological influences from the Asian continent into Japan. Many monks, scholars, and merchants passed through here, bringing advanced knowledge and rare products into Japan, profoundly impacting the development of ancient Japanese society. The exhibited artifacts, such as Chinese Yuezhou kiln celadon and Western Asian glass products, are strong evidence of international exchange at that time.

Attraction Overview
The Fukuoka Castle Ruins were once the center of Fukuoka Castle and a symbol of the power of Lord Kuroda Nagamasa. Climbing this platform made of massive stones not only allows you to appreciate the exquisite castle-building techniques but also offers stunning views of modern Fukuoka city and the distant Hakata Bay, creating a remarkable blend of past and present. This site has become an open observation deck, making it an excellent spot for visitors and locals to overlook the entire city.
Historical Background
Fukuoka Castle was built by the samurai Kuroda Nagamasa, the first lord of the Fukuoka domain, who oversaw its construction from 1601 over a period of seven years during the early Edo period. At that time, it was one of the largest castles in Japan. However, the actual appearance of the keep remains a mystery; some say it was never built to avoid suspicion from the Tokugawa shogunate, while others claim it was dismantled shortly after completion. Regardless of the truth, most of the castle's structures were demolished following the Meiji era's "Castle Abolition Order," leaving only the stone walls, gates, and some towers.

Fukuoka Castle Chao Mi Tower
Attraction Introduction
Standing at one corner of Fukuoka Castle's main keep, Chao Mi Tower is a precious building that has survived the tides of history and is one of the few original structures still preserved in Fukuoka Castle today. This elegant two-story tower, with its white walls and dark tiles, quietly tells stories from centuries past. Its name "Chao Mi" is poetic, meaning "viewing the tide," as it was once positioned to overlook the ebb and flow of Hakata Bay during the Edo period, serving as a true seaside observation point.
Historical Background
Chao Mi Tower was originally built in the early Edo period by Kuroda Nagamasa, the lord of Fukuoka at the time. It was initially located at the northeast corner of the castle, near the coastline of that era, serving as a strategic point for monitoring maritime activities while also guarding the castle. However, as time passed and urban development progressed, the coastline gradually receded. To permanently preserve this valuable structure, in 1957 (Showa 32), Chao Mi Tower was dismantled and relocated to its current position at the southwest corner of the main keep, allowing us to admire its beauty today.

Kaminohashi Gate Ruins Attraction Introduction
Kaminobashi Gate Ruins is the main entrance to the east side of Fukuoka Castle, and is also one of the most magnificent gates among the existing ruins of the castle. When you step into this area, you will be greeted by huge and thick stone walls, which silently tell the vicissitudes of history for hundreds of years. This was once a key passage connecting the residences of warriors in the city with the merchant neighborhoods outside the city. Walking here, you can seem to hear the uniform footsteps of the passing warriors. Today, although the castle gate no longer exists, its majestic stone wall (stone wall) structure is still intact, allowing every visitor to deeply feel the majestic momentum of Fukuoka Castle as the largest city in Kyushu.
Historical Background
Kaminobashi Gate As the Higashi Otemon in the “Sannomaru” area of the castle, its defensive position is crucial. This door adopted the most advanced“Finger-shaped Tiger’s Mouth”defense structure at the time. This design consists of two gates, namely the “One Gate” (Goryeo Gate) on the outside and the “Two Gates” (Wataru Gate) on the inside. A square courtyard space (i.e. “Fang”) is surrounded by a stone wall between the two doors. When the enemy breaks through the first gate, they will be trapped in this square space and suffer attacks from the defenders on the four walls. It is a very powerful defense. This design fully demonstrates the superb technology and strategic thinking of castle architecture in the early Edo period.

What stands out the most is the white rice, which is simply exceptional. It uses "Yume no Shizuku" rice from Saga Prefecture, and each guest is served a freshly cooked pot using a Nambu iron pot. Even better… the white rice can be refilled endlessly.
The sauce that accompanies the eel is a secret recipe passed down through generations, simmered for a long time to achieve a rich flavor that is not overly salty, perfectly highlighting the eel's freshness. The restaurant's elegant environment features counter seats where you can closely watch the chef grill the eel, making the dining experience not only a treat for the taste buds but also a visual feast. Experience the most authentic and meticulous charcoal-grilled eel cuisine.

When visiting Fukuoka's ramen haven, the "Nagahama area," you can't miss this spot, affectionately called "Ie 1" by locals, known for its long lines: Ganso Ramen Nagahamaya. This place not only has a complex and interesting backstory (opened by former employees of the now-closed "Ganso Nagahamaya" across the street) but also captivates countless ramen lovers with its consistent hardcore style and amazing value over the decades.
The menu is extremely simple, featuring only ramen, beer, and sake. Once seated, without needing to say a word, a steaming bowl of standard ramen will be served to you. If you want to eat like a local, shout your secret code to the staff as you enter, such as "BETA NAMA (ベタナマ)" (extra oil, very firm noodles) or "NEGI OOME (ネギ多め)" (extra green onions). A unique feature here is that there are no spoons on the table; everyone drinks the broth and slurps the noodles directly from the bowl! Unlimited white sesame and pickled ginger are available on the table for you to add as you like, creating your perfect flavor.
In an era of rising prices, a bowl of ramen here still maintains an impressively low price, combined with generous portions of noodles and rich tonkotsu broth, making it the most direct way to experience the local soul of Fukuoka. Although the queue may seem daunting, the restaurant's high efficiency ensures quick table turnover, so feel free to join the line and enjoy this authentic tonkotsu ramen feast.

Known as a symbol of Fukuoka's ramen culture, "Ganso Nagahamaya" is a living legend of local tonkotsu ramen. Since its establishment in 1952, it has been a soul food for locals and a pilgrimage site for countless travelers. This is also the birthplace of the ramen "tamago (extra noodles)" culture, which has had a profound impact on the ramen world.
Upon entering, you are greeted by the lively atmosphere next to the market and the energetic shouts of the kitchen staff, embodying the unrefined local charm that is the essence of Nagahama ramen. The menu offers only one option: ramen, and once seated, the staff will immediately ask about noodle firmness, ranging from "NAMA (raw noodles)" to "YAWA (soft noodles)," showcasing a unique ordering culture.
The broth is a clear, milky white tonkotsu soup, refreshing yet rich in pork flavor, paired with thinner noodles than Hakata ramen, making it irresistible. In a constantly evolving ramen world, "Ganso Nagahamaya" remains steadfast in its style, taste, and atmosphere, preserving the original emotion and essence of Fukuoka ramen for all visitors.

Restaurant Features
Daidai is a highly acclaimed mizutaki specialty restaurant in Fukuoka, recommended by the Michelin Bib Gourmand and consistently ranked at the top of the mizutaki category on Tabelog, making it a favorite among food lovers and locals.
Mizutaki is a representative local dish from Hakata, with its essence lying in the labor-intensive chicken broth. Daidai's broth is made by simmering water and chicken for an extended period, without any additional seasonings, showcasing the pure and rich essence of chicken. The broth is milky white, with a rich yet refreshing taste, full of collagen, making every bite a true delight.
During your meal, the staff will first serve you a small cup of plain chicken broth to savor its sweetness. Then, fresh, tender chicken pieces with bones and chicken meatballs will be cooked in the pot. When tasting the chicken, you can pair it with the restaurant's special "Daidai Vinegar Soy Sauce (ポン酢)," whose refreshing citrus flavor enhances the chicken's sweetness. After enjoying the meat, various seasonal vegetables will be added, absorbing the essence of the chicken broth, elevating the flavor even further.
In addition to the mizutaki itself, many diners rave about the unique finishing dish, "somen." Unlike the typical method of turning leftovers into porridge, here you can choose to add smooth somen noodles into the broth that contains all the essence of the ingredients, providing a perfect conclusion to this culinary feast.

Official website:https://www.ohorikouen.jp/
Business hours:The park area is open 24 hours a day.
Historical background and cultural connotation
The history of Ohori Park can be traced back to the Edo period, and its predecessor was Fukuoka Castle's "outer moat" (pronounced Ohori in Japanese). The then lord of the Fukuoka domain, Kuroda Nagamasa, cleverly made use of this wetland in the inner bay of Hakata Bay and dug it into a huge barrier to protect the castle. In modern times, with the development of the city, this historic moat was planned and reconstructed. In 1929, in order to commemorate the "East Asia Expo" held to commemorate the accession of Emperor Showa to the throne, the Fukuoka Prefectural Government decided to imitate the landscape of West Lake in Hangzhou, China, and conduct large-scale renovations of the area, thus giving birth to today's Ohori Park.
This design based on Chinese classical gardens gives Ohori Park a unique cultural connotation, making it not only a simple park, but also a cultural landscape that combines Japanese tradition and Chinese aesthetics. The park was officially registered as a "registered monument" (a scenic spot) by the Japanese government in 2007, affirming its important position and outstanding landscape value in the history of modern Japanese parks.
🕖24H
Ohori Park is known as the “urban oasis for Fukuoka citizens” and is an urban park full of water and greenery. The biggest feature of the park is its vast pond, which occupies almost half of the park. There are several small islands dotted in the center of the pond, connected by elegant bridges, allowing visitors to easily shuttle between them and enjoy the lake and water from different angles. Surrounding the pond is a trail about two kilometers long. Whether jogging in the morning, walking in the afternoon, or cycling in the evening, this is an excellent place for citizens and tourists to enjoy their leisure time. In addition to the natural scenery, the park also has a children’s play area, a Noh theater, the Fukuoka City Museum of Art, and an exquisite Japanese garden, which is suitable for both movement and tranquility, meeting the leisure needs of all ages.

Ohori Park Noh Theater
Exhibition Information
- Closed: Every Monday (if a holiday, closed the next day), year-end and New Year (December 29 – January 3)
Overview
Nestled in the heart of Fukuoka's "Oasis," Ohori Park, the Noh Theater was established to preserve and promote Japan's traditional performing arts—Noh and Bunraku—recognized as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. Designed by architect Hiroshi Oe, who also contributed to the Tokyo National Noh Theatre, it opened in 1986. The venue features 590 seats, echoing the solemn and tranquil atmosphere of the Tokyo National Noh Theatre. Visitors can enjoy authentic Noh and Kyogen performances, and through the large windows, they can take in the beautiful seasonal views of Ohori Park, seamlessly blending nature's beauty with traditional art.
Historical Background and Cultural Significance
The history of "Noh" dates back to the 8th century, characterized by masked performers telling stories through minimalistic staging, solemn music, and dance. Its current form was established in the late 14th century by the Kan'ami and Zeami father-son duo, continuing for over six centuries. The stage of Ohori Park Noh Theater faithfully reproduces the traditional Noh stage style, with a majestic pine tree painted in the background and a "hashigakari" (bridge) connecting the backstage to the main stage. Even indoors, the stage retains the roof structure of traditional outdoor stages, reflecting Japan's unique aesthetic sensibility. In addition to being an important venue for Noh and Kyogen performances, it actively hosts introductory lectures and various performances, bringing this ancient cultural heritage closer to modern life and becoming a significant cultural hub in the Fukuoka area.

Attraction Overview
The Ohori Park Japanese Garden was built in 1984 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the park. It is a traditional "shakkei" style strolling garden, skillfully utilizing traditional landscaping techniques to present expansive ponds, rolling artificial hills, elegant waterfalls, and sturdy black pines and maples, perfectly showcasing the beauty of nature and the Wabi-sabi aesthetic of Japan. Visitors can stroll along winding paths, navigating between stone lanterns, small bridges, and meticulously trimmed vegetation, with each turn revealing a thoughtfully composed landscape that allows one to forget the city's hustle and immerse in the poetic changes of the seasons.
Historical Background
To celebrate the park's 50th anniversary, Fukuoka City specially invited the renowned landscape designer from the Showa era, Kinsaku Nakane, to design this Japanese garden. Nakane is a master of modern Japanese garden design, with works found both domestically and internationally, including the "Tenshin-en" at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. He infused his profound understanding of classical gardens into the design of Ohori Park, creating a renowned garden that embodies both traditional charm and modern sensibility.
Cultural Significance
The garden's "shakkei" design is one of the most representative styles of Japanese gardens, aiming to mimic natural landscapes and create a miniature ideal scenery. Every stone and tree in the garden, from the artificial hills to the ponds, and even the koi within, carries symbolic meaning, guiding viewers towards meditation and reflection. The tea houses "Kangetsu-tei" and "Shanohana-tei" within the garden are excellent places to experience Japanese tea culture and feel the spirit of "ichigo ichie." Here, visitors can enjoy matcha and wagashi while quietly observing the garden's scenery, deeply appreciating the traditional Japanese values of harmony between humanity and nature.

Exhibition Information
Exhibition Overview
At the southern end of Ohori Park in Fukuoka City, the Japanese garden transforms into a magical nightscape. "SORA" perfectly blends digital technology with traditional garden aesthetics, offering an unprecedented sensory feast. Imagine moonlight cascading onto a tranquil pond, suddenly illuminated by vibrant projections: stone lanterns flicker with mysterious light, and lush trees seem to come alive, dancing in a tapestry of light and shadow with each visitor's step. This is not just a visual feast but also a resonance of sound and spirit—gentle sounds flow like mountain springs, guiding you through eight thematic experiences, from the confrontation of light and darkness to interactive garden dialogues, each step feels like whispering with nature's spirits. Whether couples stroll hand in hand along the glowing stone paths or families explore the garden's digital soul together, this artistic event transforms the night into an unforgettable dream, inviting you to become a traveler of inner nature and rediscover your own tranquility and wonder.
Historical Background
The history of Ohori Park dates back to the 1927 "East Asia Industrial Exposition," when this land became a hub of culture and art. The Japanese garden began construction in 1979 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ohori Park, officially opening in 1984 (Showa 59), covering approximately 1.2 hectares, designed in a strolling pond and hill style to emulate the classical aesthetics of the Edo period, becoming a cultural heritage of Fukuoka's citizens. "SORA," as a limited event for the summer of 2025, has been held permanently since September 22, injecting modern digital vitality into this nearly 40-year-old garden, continuing its mission as an urban oasis.
Cultural Significance
"SORA" profoundly embodies the Japanese traditional philosophy of "animism" (八百万の神), using projection mapping and interactive technology to bring the still elements of the garden to life, visualizing the spirituality and will of nature. This is not only an extension of traditional Japanese garden aesthetics—ponds, artificial hills, and stone paths symbolize harmony between humans and nature—but also an innovative dialogue of contemporary art, merging light, sound, and visitor interaction, exploring the connection between inner nature and urban life. In the fast-paced modern society, this exhibition invites audiences to slow down, revisiting ancestral reverence for nature through the lens of technology, deepening cultural awareness of self and environment, becoming a cultural bridge connecting the past and the future.

Historical Background and Cultural Significance
The Fukuoka City Museum of Art officially opened in 1979 and boasts a rich and diverse collection of over 16,000 pieces. The collection is divided into two main themes: one features works by 20th-century modern art masters such as Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, and Andy Warhol; the other focuses on classical Japanese art centered around the Fukuoka region, particularly precious artifacts and significant Buddhist art related to the former Fukuoka feudal lord Kuroda family.
This unique collection policy positions the Fukuoka City Museum of Art not only as a showcase for Western modern art but also as a custodian of local historical culture. Attraction Overview
Kouun Shrine is quietly located near the summit of Nishikoen, a resting place for Fukuoka citizens, offering a serene and majestic atmosphere away from the city's hustle and bustle. Although the shrine's grounds are not large, they are rich in historical significance, with greenery and ancient stone lanterns lining the approach, creating a solemn ambiance. The shrine is dedicated to Kuroda Kanbei (Rokusui), the founder of the Fukuoka domain, and his son, the first lord Kuroda Nagamasa, attracting many visitors who pray for success in careers, prosperous businesses, and family safety. In addition to the main hall, there are many noteworthy features, such as the "Lucky Helmet" statue modeled after Kuroda Nagamasa's unique helmet, "Oniwabanshu," which is said to bring good fortune when touched.
Historical Background and Cultural Significance
The history of Kouun Shrine is closely linked to the development of Fukuoka. The name "Kouun" is derived from the posthumous titles of the two deities worshipped here—Kuroda Rokusui (Ryukoin) and Kuroda Nagamasa (Kouun-in). The shrine was originally established in 1870 (Meiji 3) by former Fukuoka samurai, funded to honor and worship these two lords who made significant contributions to Fukuoka, built on the ruins of Fukuoka Castle's main keep. In 1910 (Meiji 43), the shrine was relocated to its current site in Nishikoen to accommodate urban development.
The main deity, Kuroda Kanbei (Rokusui), was one of the few brilliant strategists of the Sengoku period, assisting Toyotomi Hideyoshi in unifying the country; his son, Kuroda Nagamasa, achieved great merit in the Battle of Sekigahara and was granted the 520,000 koku territory of Fukuoka, laying the foundation for modern Fukuoka City. Thus, this shrine is deeply rooted in the respect of the local people and is seen as a symbol of Fukuoka's prosperity. Every spring and autumn, solemn festivals are held, continuing a tradition that has lasted for hundreds of years, telling the story of Fukuoka's pioneering history and samurai spirit.

This area is one of the favorite urban oases for both locals and tourists, exuding a relaxed and romantic vacation atmosphere. At the center of the park, a European-style waterfront complex called "Marizon" extends into the sea, featuring restaurants, shops, and a wedding chapel, making it a visual focal point of the beach. Historical Background and Cultural Significance
This beautiful beach is not a natural formation; its creation is closely tied to the modernization of Fukuoka City. Originally a body of water, it was transformed into new land through land reclamation projects. This large-scale urban development plan was initiated to host the "Asia-Pacific Exposition (よかとピア, Yokatopia)" in 1989. The successful exposition showcased Fukuoka's vibrancy to the world and left behind many enduring landmarks, including the nearby Fukuoka Tower and Fukuoka City Museum, with Momochi Seaside Park being one of the most beloved waterfront facilities. Its existence symbolizes Fukuoka's transformation from a traditional port city to a modern, international waterfront city.

Exhibition Overview
The Fukuoka City Museum is located in the "Momochihama" area, home to Fukuoka Tower and Fukuoka Dome, and is a modern museum focused on the history and culture of Fukuoka as a gateway for Asian exchange from ancient times to the present. The museum's most notable treasure is the national treasure "King of Na" gold seal, unearthed from Shika Island. In addition to the gold seal, the collection is rich, with permanent exhibitions systematically narrating the development of the Fukuoka region from the Paleolithic era to modern times, allowing visitors to deeply appreciate the unique charm of this city as an international exchange hub.
Historical Background and Cultural Significance
The Fukuoka City Museum opened on October 18, 1990, as an important cultural facility established to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Fukuoka City. The core concept of its collection is to explain how this land has played a key role as "a window for Asian exchange" since ancient times. Fukuoka, formerly known as "Hakata," has been a frontline for Japan's foreign trade, cultural exchange, and national defense since the Yayoi period due to its geographical proximity to the Korean Peninsula and mainland China.
The most culturally significant exhibit in the museum is undoubtedly the national treasure "King of Na" gold seal. Discovered in 1784 on Shika Island in Fukuoka City, it is recorded in the Chinese historical text "Book of the Later Han" as a gift from Emperor Guangwu of the Eastern Han to the envoy of ancient Japan's "Na" state. This small gold seal not only serves as solid evidence of over two thousand years of exchange between China and Japan but also directly proves the significant role of the Fukuoka region in the formation of ancient Japan. In the permanent exhibition, alongside the gold seal, numerous artifacts related to the Kuroda clan of Fukuoka are displayed, including the "Nihon-go," one of the three famous spears in the world, as well as a wealth of paintings and documents depicting the prosperous scenes of ancient Hakata, showcasing Fukuoka's transformation from an ancient diplomatic outpost and medieval trading port to a modern commercial city.

You can use the official app to capture various creatures wandering in the space with virtual arrows, observe their information, and release them back into this digital ecosystem, creating your own unique experience.
Historical Background and Cultural Significance
This exhibition opened in July 2020 alongside the new landmark “BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA” next to Fukuoka PayPay Dome. Since its establishment, the teamLab collective has been dedicated to exploring the intersection of art, science, technology, and nature. Their works break the boundaries of traditional art, transforming viewers from passive observers into active participants in the artistic creation.
Through high-tech interactive experiences, it reinterprets the relationship between humans and nature. In the “Collecting Forest,” visitors learn that over-collection can lead to the disappearance of species, prompting reflection on ecological conservation issues in the real world. In the “Moving Forest,” the philosophy of “understanding the world through the body” is emphasized, enhancing perception of the world through physical activities like climbing and jumping in a three-dimensional interactive space. This is not only a visual feast but also a thought-provoking, educational cultural journey, showcasing how contemporary art uses technology to guide people in exploring deeper issues.

Attraction Overview
:"Asobi Park PLUS" is an indoor children's amusement park operated by the renowned game company Bandai Namco, designed for children aged 0 to 12. It is a dream space where families can enjoy joyful moments together. Located within the large shopping center "MARK IS Fukuoka Momochi," it offers convenient access and fun regardless of the weather.
The park is divided into several unique areas, such as the "Large Sports Competition Area" where kids can run and jump freely, the "Creative and Drawing Area" for unleashing creativity, the "Toddler Zone" suitable for crawling infants, and the "Electric Car Zone" for kids to experience driving fun. The facilities are not only entertaining but also thoughtfully designed to promote children's physical and mental development, allowing them to learn and grow in a safe environment through play.
Historical Background and Cultural Significance
:The rise of large indoor amusement parks reflects the family life culture in modern Japanese cities. Due to limited outdoor space and weather factors, safe, clean, and air-conditioned indoor play facilities have become a popular choice for parents. Bandai Namco, with its deep roots in the electronic gaming and entertainment industry, combines innovative digital entertainment concepts with physical play facilities to create a unique "Edutainment" experience.
"Asobi Park PLUS" is an important place for parent-child interaction, promoting children's social and sensory development. Here, children's imaginations can soar, while parents can watch their kids explore the world safely, creating precious family memories together. This is why it is beloved by Japanese families and has become a key facility within shopping centers.
