“Yakitori Shokudo” is a cozy, very Japanese‑feeling little spot, famous for high‑quality charcoal‑grilled chicken. They’re picky about ingredients, using premium local breeds like “Ise Akadori” and “Satsuma Jidori” so every skewer stays juicy and flavorful. One must‑order is the grilled chicken thigh, served with lemon and a touch of yuzu chili for a bright, lightly spicy kick.
The grilled chicken heart and chicken skin are slow‑grilled at low heat so the outside is crisp while the inside stays tender, and they’re extra addictive with the shop’s secret sansho pepper sauce. Another popular dish is the potato salad topped with a soft‑boiled egg yolk, mixed with creamy mashed potato and a special mustard dressing for a rich, snack‑with‑beer kind of flavor. If you want a proper intro to Japanese yakitori, go for the assorted chicken skewer platter and try a bit of everything in one go.
If you’re wandering around Tenma in Osaka, this relaxed little shop is well worth a stop and a great place to get to know Osaka’s izakaya food.

“Creative Izakaya Nakakanaka” in Osaka’s Tenma area is a hugely popular spot that builds its menu around fresh ingredients bought daily from the market. One signature dish is the lotus root dumplings: fluffy, soft lotus paste soaking up a rich dashi broth – simple but addictive. Another classic is the sea bream claypot rice, slowly cooked in an earthenware pot so the rice and fish flavor melt together, with a bit of crispy rice at the bottom if you’re lucky.
The mixed sashimi platter changes with the season, featuring whatever is best that day – anything from bigeye tuna to mackerel – so there’s always something new to try. Beyond seafood, the gently simmered chicken liver is another good choice, cooked until it’s silky and melt‑in‑your‑mouth. They also stock a nice range of regional Japanese sake, perfect for sipping alongside all these dishes.
Whether you’re drinking with friends or having a solo counter dinner, “Nakakanaka” is a great place to soak up the Osaka izakaya atmosphere.

“Hashibaya Nikuzara” is a tiny charcoal-grill meat bar that locals love, especially for its ultra-limited “Japanese Beef Chateaubriand” — only 10 servings per day. The outside is perfectly seared and fragrant, while the inside stays insanely tender and juicy. A dab of spicy wasabi makes the beef flavor pop even more — it’s a must-order.
Another star is their “Beef Fat Rice Bowl”: rice buried under grilled beef, fish roe, and rich egg yolk. The beef melts, the salty roe pops — it’s dangerously addictive.
Don’t skip the “Scallion Mixed Noodles” either. Flat noodles coated in a rich sweet–savory sauce, piled with green onions and minced meat for a super satisfying bite. The place is small and cozy with only 8 seats, perfect for meat lovers who prefer quality over size.

“Toriya Tachibana” sits in Osaka’s Tenma area and is paradise for chicken lovers, from classic yakitori to playful original dishes. First-timers should go for the “Hinai Chicken 7-part Sashimi Platter” — breast, liver, heart, gizzard, chicken meatballs and more, all raw or lightly prepared so you can taste different textures in one shot.
The homemade “Chicken Meatballs” are another favorite: soft, juicy, and you can customize the flavor with egg yolk, sauce, or grated daikon vinegar. Veggie skewers like “Grilled Manganji Sweet Peppers” and “Grilled Mushrooms” are also popular and pair perfectly with the chicken skewers.
To finish, the “Chicken Bone Broth Ramen” is the perfect closer — rich chicken soup with springy noodles that’ll have you slurping till the bowl is empty. Overall, 鶏家 たちばな is a must-visit Tenma spot if you’re serious about good chicken dishes.

“A la Carte” is an izakaya that focuses on fresh, seasonal Japanese ingredients — ideal if you want something a bit more traditional. Their signature “Grilled Yam” is a local favorite: the outside is lightly crisp, the inside stays sticky and smooth, and it’s extra good with their house-made miso.
For something cute and refreshing, try the “Apple Salad”: a whole apple hollowed out and stuffed with salad. It looks great and tastes light and fruity, perfect as a post-meal dish.
In winter, their “Local Chicken Hotpot” is the highlight: springy chicken, plenty of vegetables, and rich chicken broth that keeps you eating non-stop. You can even finish the soup by adding egg and rice to make a comforting egg-rice porridge — simple but brilliant.
Whether you’re here for veggie-heavy healthy plates or classic snacks to go with your drinks, “A la Carte” gives you a warm, slightly surprising food experience right in the heart of Tenma’s dining district.
