Near Tenjinbashisuji 6-chome in Osaka, there’s a hidden Sichuan-style ramen shop called “Bakamon” (バカボン). The shop’s uniqueness lies in its dual nature—serving ramen during the day and transforming into a Sichuan cuisine restaurant at night. It’s a true culinary “two-way player”! You can reach this uniquely crafted shop in about a 5-minute walk from Tenjinbashisuji 6-chome Station on the Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line. Bakamon’s rich and flavorful “Thick Spicy Noodles” have captivated many food lovers, with just one bite giving you a taste of thousands of years of Chinese history.

The owner of the shop, Mr. Liu Baojun, hails from Liaoning, China, and has honed his culinary skills since childhood in a family-owned restaurant. He later traveled to Sichuan, immersing himself in authentic Sichuan cooking techniques while also developing a deep interest in ramen. The most popular ramen dish is the chicken-based “Tori Soba” (available in soy sauce or salt flavor), but if you ask the staff, they will often recommend the “Thick Spicy Noodles”—a dish that has deeply enchanted many.

This noodle dish uses Kagoshima’s specialty “Delicious Red Egg” as its centerpiece, with its bright red yolk blending perfectly with the rich broth. Additionally, the dish includes cilantro and a special French meat terrine, ingredients that are rare in most ramen shops but pair wonderfully with the noodles. It’s worth noting that during the evening, the small shop opens up the second floor to accommodate more diners eager to enjoy the Sichuan delicacies.
