Stepping into the luxurious and stylish bar ‘Grand Noble’ in Yokohama’s Kannai immediately captured our attention.This is an extension of the ‘Bar Noble’ series. The owner, Takafumi Yamada, won the grand championship at the World Cocktail Competition organized by the International Bartenders Association, and this bar continues his ultimate pursuit of mixology.

The entrance features heavy double doors, and the moment you push them open, the outside noise seems to be cut off, revealing a space that resembles a stately European castle. The lighting is soft, and there are not many seats, with both a bar counter and tables, creating an overall atmosphere that is quiet and elegant. Many who have visited describe it as entering another dimension; it doesn’t feel crowded, yet it is private enough for one to enjoy in solitude or for two or three to engage in quiet conversation.

not only won the grand championship in 2010, but he also took the title at the world competition organized by the International Bartenders Association (IBA) in 2011. Here, he crafts cocktails for each guest that are like works of art using his unique techniques. Among them, the ‘Great Sunrise’ is a classic masterpiece that is a must-try, a delightful surprise that embodies the dedication and creativity of a world-class mixologist.

The highlight here is the cocktails. The bar has very high standards for mixology, and the bartender’s techniques are stable and meticulous. Some guests order the refreshing Gin Rickey, while others opt for the Talisker Highball with black pepper, and some enjoy Islay whisky like Ardbeg on the rocks. Fruit-based cocktails are also frequently mentioned, with the sweetness and acidity of peaches or seasonal fruits blending harmoniously with the spirit, creating distinct layers without being overwhelming. The bar also offers cigars, making it one of the few places where one can fully enjoy both smoking and drinking.
